The abuse of Narcotics, Psychotropics, and Addictive Substances (NAPZA) has increasingly become a tangible threat to the sustainability of younger generations. Its impact is not limited to physical health issues such as damage to vital organs, nervous system disorders, and weakened immunity, but also extends to psychological problems including depression, anxiety, and deviant behavior. Moreover, the social consequences of NAPZA abuse are evident in declining productivity, disrupted family harmony, rising criminal activity, and the deterioration of human resources that should support national development. Young people, who are in the phase of identity formation, are particularly vulnerable to environmental influences, peer pressure, and a lack of knowledge about the dangers of NAPZA.
This study seeks to comprehensively examine the effects of NAPZA abuse through a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing perspectives from public health, developmental psychology, criminology, and law. The methods employed include literature review and normative analysis of existing regulations, providing a holistic understanding of the consequences involved. Findings reveal that NAPZA abuse harms not only individuals but also imposes significant social and economic burdens on communities and the state. Therefore, integrated preventive measures are urgently needed, involving family and school-based education, stronger regulations and law enforcement, as well as active community participation in creating drug-free environments. The results of this research are expected to serve as a foundation for more effective public policy formulation aimed at reducing NAPZA abuse, while also supporting rehabilitation programs and youth empowerment initiatives to restore productivity and contribution to national development. In conclusion, this study underscores the urgency of addressing the impact of NAPZA abuse as a critical step toward sustainable solutions.
